Lower/Mid Hudson

The Yonkers progressive dialogue was hosted by Yonkers Public Schools, Westchester Community College, the New York State Board of Regents, and IBM. Over 50 stakeholders participated, representing diverse communities across the Yonkers and lower/mid-Hudson Valley region. The dialogue was launched with introductory remarks by Bernard P. Pierorazio (Superintendent, Yonkers Public Schools), Joseph N. Hankin (President, Westchester Community College), and Sheila Appel (Corporate Citizenship and Corporate Affairs, IBM). Highlights were shared of recommendations that have emerged from preceding dialogues, an overview of the Ohio STEM Learning Network model, and an example of a STEM partnership at work by Amanda Curley (Director, School Improvement, Yonkers Public Schools). Participants developed recommendations in small groups and shared their top ideas in plenary session. They also provided an individual assessment of each group's recommendations and four summary statements. Regent Harry Phillips III shared insights from the Regents' perspective to conclude the meeting.

Ethnographic observation of the small group and plenary sessions was led by the PAST Foundation with support of local undergraduate and graduate students. The PAST ethnographic bullet point report is incorporated in the regional dialogue report available to the right.
